Delta Tau Delta’s main philanthropy event last Wednesday made waves towards research for its national philanthropy, JDRF. The event raised an approximate $1,000 to $2,000 in ticket sales for JDRF, selling tickets for $5 each.
The ticket price included a dinner of hot dogs, veggie burgers and chips, along with the chance to “dunk-a-delt.” The brothers took turns in the dunk tank as people tried their luck at dunking fellow Delt peers. While some were successful, others spent their time socializing or playing corn hole while enjoying the nice weather. The Delts also spent time reminding people how their money is going towards the philanthropy during the event as well.
JDRF has been Delta Tau Delta’s national philanthropic partner since 2012, with a dedication to spreading awareness and gaining funds for the research of Type 1 Diabetes. Since the partnership began, Delta Tau Delta chapters have raised more than $830,000 for T1D research. Additionally, Delta Tau Delta undergraduates and alumni have contributed more than 38,000 hours of service through local JDRF chapter events.
According to www.delts.org, “JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.” The goal is to “accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications.”
President of Delta Tau Delta, Charles Samuels, ’19, plans on continuing the tradition next year, with the hopes of accumulating even more awareness and funding for the philanthropy.
