The Wittenberg Cross Country teams had impressive finishes at their only home meet of the season, the Chase Gage Memorial 5k, held at Snyder Park on Saturday morning.
The race commemorates the late Chase Gage, a former Wittenberg Cross Country runner, who passed away in 2015.
The women wrapped up their race with a strong 21 points for a first place finish overall.
Freshman Alexis Gray finished her race with a well-timed sprint in the last few yards, putting her in first place only a few yards before crossing the finish line at 19:42.76. This was Gray’s second consecutive time scoring first for the Tigers.
Senior Lorin Conti, placed third for the women’s team, with freshman Katherine Phillips, sophomore Paige Narcisco and senior Erin Hord also placing in the top 10.
“I was very happy with our team’s performance,” said Conti, captain of the women’s team. “We have a very strong top five this season. With the additions of Alexis and Katherine to last year’s team, we intend to move up in our conference this season.”
For the men, sophomore Charles Rodeheffer, finished in first place with an impressive time of 16:39:60. Close on his tail was senior Jon Osman in second place at 16:52:10.
Junior Jersson Pachar, recently recovered from an injury, placed third and senior Ethan Raines and sophomore Evan Schreiber also placed in the top 10 for the Tigers.
The men also finished in first, scoring 20 points.
Wittenberg will head to Westerville, Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 17 to race in the Otterbein Invitational.
