After their victory on Feb. 16, head coach Kelly Mahlum told the Wittenberg Athletics that “everyone has a new life in the tournament.”
“Our goal is to put our best three games of the season together,” continued Mahlum heading into the Quarterfinals.
Women’s Basketball NCAC Quarterfinal
After a win over Oberlin College on Senior Day, 60-48, the Tigers turned around and went head to head with the Yeowomen on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in the NCAC Quarterfinal. The Tigers captured a 70-64 victory.
In a game that started off slow, the Tigers weren’t able to capture a solid lead until the fourth quarter when Sydney Mayle, ’19, made a layup that put the Yeowomen behind them by one point. Delaney Williams, ’21, and Alex Kiess, ’19, put up free throws that continued to fend off Oberlin and finalized the Tiger victory.
Lead scorer for the night was Williams with 16 points and Riley Culver, ’20, had seven rebounds. There were three Tigers that tied in assists with two each; Williams, Kristie Kalis, ’21, and Mayle.
Women’s Basketball NCAC Semifinals
Following their victory over Oberlin College, the Tigers traveled to De- Pauw and took on their Tigers where they fell 57-48.
As the two Tigers went to battle, Witt started off with a six-point lead in the first quarter and a 10 point lead in the second. It was in the third quarter that DePauw captured the lead and never let go.
At the end of the night, Williams lead in points with 19 and Kalis lead in rebounds with 10. Mayle, Culver and Kalis lead in assists with two each. The Tigers ended the season 18-9 overall after going 11-5 in conference. The team won 11 games at home and six on the road where they averaged 68 points, 38.3 rebounds and 15.2 assists per game.
