Men’s Basketball
Wittenberg defeats Wooster, 82-77, in an overtime victory! Wittenberg and Wooster have a well-known tradition of being rivals in football and even so more in basketball. After this victory over Wooster, the all-time series is now 56-55 in favor of Wooster. Wittenberg has spent the past 9 years trying to climb the mountain and face their giants, and with a little faith they overcame. Chad Roy, the 6’9” sophomore from Toledo, Ohio, led the team in scoring with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assist. Behind Roy was the 6’5” Junior, also a native of Springfield, Ohio, Jailen Williams. He finished with 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assist. With the win over the Scotts, the Wittenberg Men’s basketball took their momentum and gained another victory over the Lords of Kenyon with a 78-70 victory.
Track & Field – Men and Women
Men’s and Women’s track and field opened up the year at Otterbein College. Women finished 3rd overall and men finished 3rd overall. Some of the women stand outs from the meet were Brea Medlock, who finished 1st place in the 500m dash; the women’s 4×4 m team finishing 1st (Alaina Longshore, Sara Richards, Frankie Bowsher, and Brea Medlock). Another standout is Jordan Crow who finished 2nd place in the 60m hurdles as well as finishing 2nd in the long jump.
Some of the men standouts are Aaron Melsop, who finished 1st in the long jump and 3rd in the triple jump; Laike Wallace who finished 2nd in the 500m and 3rd place in the 60m hurdles; and Justin Fisher who took 2nd in the triple jump and 4th in the long jump.
Congratulations to the Wittenberg Men’s and Women’s track who are performing at a standout level. They will be heading to Denison January 23 for their next meet.
Men’s and Women’s Swim & Dive
The Men and Women swim teams went to battle in the waters with the Colonels of Centre College. The men defeated the Colonels 143-98, with top finishes in the 6 of 11 events. The women defeated the Colonels 155-62 took high rankings in 8 out of the 10 events. Erin Swardenski took the first victory in the 200-yard medley relay.
The swim team also salutes and says farewell to the seniors of the men and women swim teams as they look forward to future endeavors in careers and many other pathways.
