On Friday, Feb. 19, the Tiger men’s volleyball team won all three sets against the Comets of Olivet College. This win allowed the Wittenberg Tigers to gain bragging rights over their first ever Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League win in the history of the school.
Freshmen Carter Schmidt, Ashton Sellers and Joel Sotos were Wittenberg’s top performers of the night.
Schmidt led the team with 10 kills, Sellers contributed to eight kills and five blocks, and Sotos compiled 11 digs and four set assist.
The Tigers won the first set 25-9, the second 25-14 and the third 25-17.
Following Friday night’s game, the Tigers played Adrian College and won their second MCVL match on Saturday, Feb. 20. Winning the match 3-0, freshman Justin Luby had 14 kills during the game and was one of the game leaders.
The Tigers dominated all three matches 25-17, 25-16 and 25-11.
According to the online stats, the Wittenberg Tigers “produced a kill-percentage of .387.” This win puts the men’s volleyball team at the record of 8-4 in the season and 2-4 in MCVL.
Next up, the Tigers will compete on Mar. 6 against SUNY Poly in New York at noon, followed by a game against Wells at 7 p.m.
