When it comes to sports, you don’t want just anyone on your team. You want someone who is going to work hard; someone who is going to bring 100 percent to the field and push you right along with them. You want someone you can count on, and most of all, someone with skill.
Look no further than senior, Michelle Brunswick. She’s dedicated in not only one, but two sports here at Wittenberg, and has worked hard to earn her spot on both teams.
Starting as varsity center back on the women’s soccer team, Brunswick has played a huge role in some of the Tigers’ victories. She has been playing soccer since she was five years old, inspired by her brother who has taught her the value of a little friendly competition, and pushed her to thrive from a very young age.
“It was always a little bit of a competition to see who could be better at scoring goals or juggling,” Brunswick said. “Everything was always a competition, which pushed me both mentally and physically in the sport.”
Brunswick is a double major in biochemistry and molecular biology, so time management is a very critical part of her routine.
“A regular day typically goes with me in class or lab most of the day until I go straight to practice from there. Usually I then hit the library and do homework with friends until I go home finally and briefly see my roommate before doing it all again the next day,” Brunswick said.
Brunswick is able to squeeze a few hours of socializing into her very busy schedule once or twice a week. Otherwise, she is focused on bettering herself both in school and in sports.
Brunswick shared that she is grateful for her opportunities here at Witt and is always keeping a positive mindset during games, helping her to push forward no matter the outcome. On the field, Brunswick is a fireball of energy, always ready to light up the game. In practice, she always gives her all, even in the simplest of drills.
When the field is covered in snow, and it’s too cold to think about going outside for a game, you can find Brunswick tearing up the basketball court, for she is also a guard and forward for the women’s basketball team. Though she hasn’t played basketball as long as she’s played soccer, Brunswick is going on year four of playing as a Tiger.
Brunswick has received honorable mention for soccer in 2015 and basketball in 2016. She was on the first team Academic All-Ohio in 2014, as well as honorable mention in 2014, for soccer. As if two isn’t great enough, Brunswick was also named the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Player of the Week in November of 2015 for soccer.
Brunswick is an all-around great athlete and student. She has earned her varsity spots on both teams, and will continue on to do great things after she’s graduated in May. Wittenberg wishes her the best.
