There is a new place in downtown Springfield – and it smells so sweet. Filled to the ceiling with every kind of chocolate a Wittenberg student could imagine, Winans Chocolates and Coffees boasts a menu of delicious chocolates and coffees, just as its name suggests.
Winans Chocolates and Coffees opened up a new store at 32 North Fountain Avenue at the end of last semester, conveniently two stores down from Bada Bing! Pizzeria.
Opening at 6:30 a.m. every Monday through Friday, Winans provides a great environment for any part of a student’s day, especially if students want to start their days off on a yummy foot. The café is open Monday through Thursdays from 6:30 a.m. until 8 p.m., Fridays from 6:30 a.m. until 9 p.m., Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Entering into the café, warm wooden floors catch the eye with plenty of space to sit down in a small group setting. The perfect environment for an off-campus date, with a three-minute drive time or a 17-minute walk time, students certainly won’t go wrong with Winans, especially as Valentine’s Day approaches.
Although the café is fairly sparse with tables and chairs, do not underestimate the taste of their chocolates and beverages. Boasting everything from Ohio’s favorites, Buckeyes, to Mint Pattys and Bourbon Cherry chocolates, Winans offers 28 different chocolates for a variety of different tastes.
The counter inside Winans also offers a variety of other chocolate-infused candies, including chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered Nutter Butters and chocolate covered Oreos. Separate from the counter, Winans offers a variety of bagged goodies, anything from chocolate raisins to chocolate espresso beans and velvet cherries. For nut lovers, they offer a variety of gourmet nuts including cashews and roasted and salted almonds.
As for the café, Winans boasts a wide variety of beverages from coffee to hot chocolate. Bags of coffees, including a chocolate raspberry coffee, can be purchased to bring back to campus. They also offer a signature Winans Blend, which combines a blend of Columbia, Costa Rica, Kenya and Sumatra flavors.
With the inviting feel and yummy tastes of Winans, students will find themselves spending hours inside the café. Winans also makes a great place for students to spend a couple hours off-campus studying or meeting for a group project.
