On a warm Wednesday evening, the Wittenberg Tigers Women’s Soccer Team hosted a home game against Transylvania Pioneers. The game ended in a double overtime tie.
At the beginning of the first half, both teams came out blazing with their offense attack. Each team had many opportunities to score a goal throughout the game. It was a great game on the defensive side as there were tons of last-minute slide tackles and blocked shots. The spectators that attended the game could hear blocked shots off of player’s cleats and shin guards.
Throughout the majority of the game, when a team had possession, they made clean and crisp passes to teammates in an attempt to score. In addition to all of the slide tackles and blocked shots, there were a large amounts of headers. The momentum was neutral as no team could gain an advantage over the other.
At the end of the first half there was a total of six shots and two of these six shots were saved by both goalies. The second half was the same as the first half with both teams going up and down the field.
As time was coming close to the end of the game, the Tigers had a chance to win by converting off a foul. The potential game winning header was too high and overtime was getting ready to begin.
In the first overtime, a Transylvania player received a yellow card in the 95th minute. The Tigers was able to get three shots off two of them. One was wide and one was saved by the Pioneers goalie, while the Pioneers were then able to get one shot off. The double overtime followed suit as both teams fought hard to score a goal, although no team could best the other.
The Tigers next game will be at home against Oberlin on Sunday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. and next Saturday, Oct. 7 against Wooster at 1:30 p.m.
