Men’s Basketball v. Ohio Wesleyan University
On Wednesday, Feb. 6, the Tigers took on the Battling Bishops from Ohio Wesleyan University in the Pam Evans-Smith Arena. Witt took a victory of 91-58, leaving the Battling Bishops in the dust.
The Tigers jumped out into an early lead, with Mitchell Balser, ’19, starting it off by making a jump shot 15 seconds into the game.
Jake Bertemes, ’20, followed that up with a jumper and Connor Seipel. ’20, rounded out the six-point lead with a layup. The lead caused OWU to take their first timeout of the game within the first two minutes. The Battling Bishops didn’t manage to gain any footing against the Tigers, with Witt’s largest lead being 10 points.
Coming out of the half, the Tigers captured a 28-point lead and managed to come within nine points of a triple-digit score.
Seipel and Jordan Pumroy, ’20, led in points with 16 each. Seipel also led in rebounds with 11, rounded out by James Johnson, ’21, with four assists. As a team, the Tigers had 49 rebounds, 15 assists, scored 22 points off of turnovers and scored 44 points in the paint with 28 points from the bench.
Men’s Basketball v. College of Wooster
On Saturday night, the Tigers headed to the College of Wooster with a vengeance after taking a loss to the Fighting Scots at home on earlier , 73-65. After gaining an early lead before the half, the Tigers took their victory of 84-74 over the College of Wooster.
Nineteen seconds into the game, Seipel landed a jumper and got the ball rolling for the Tigers. This was followed closely by a steal from Balser, giving Johnson the opportunity to score and put Witt four points ahead. However, it slowly became a battle for the lead between the Tigers and the Fighting Scots.
Heading into the half, the Tigers were ahead 34-21 after Bertemes, Landon Martin, ’21, and Johnson put up seven points together.
The entirety of the second half was full of Wooster trying to catch up to the Tigers, but to no avail. Witt continued to put up shots and maintain their lead. The game ended after Bertemes made two free throws finalizing the score of the night.
Balser led in points for the Tigers with a whopping 18. Seipel and Johnson tied up rebounds with eight each with Bertemes and Balser rounding out assists landing three each. As a whole, the team had 31 rebounds, 11 assists, 12 turnovers, made 16 points off of turnovers, had 11 second-chance points and scored 15 points off the bench.
Coming up, the Tigers will be taking on Wabash College for their Senior Night on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 7:00 p.m. before heading back on the road to take on Hiram College on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 2:00 p.m.
