Men’s Basketball
Looking back at the men’s 2018-2019 season, the Tigers ended their season 24-6, after ending the season in the second round of the NCAA tournament against Guilford College where they fell 70-61. Looking forward, the Tigers are going to start their season on Nov. 16 at Brooklyn College against the Bulldogs, returning home the following Saturday and taking on Mount St. Joseph University for their home opener. There are five senior Tigers this year: Jordan Pumroy, Jake Bertemes, Mark Fair, Tanner Cowgill and Connor Seipel. The Tigers averaged 82 points, 37.7 rebounds and 14.3 assists per game last season.
They currently stand as the all-time winningest NCAA Division III men’s basketball program and were ranked number five in the d3hoops.com preseason poll for the 2019-2020 season.
Women’s Basketball
Looking back at the women’s 2018-2019 season, the Tigers concluded 18-9 overall, as well as 11-5 in conference. The Tigers averaged 68 points, 38.8 rebounds and 15.2 assists per game. After graduating five seniors this past season, the team welcomed three freshmen in August- Mackenzie Pauley, Mone’t Allen and Aria Gaines. At the conclusion of this season, the Tigers will be saying goodbye to three seniors: Riley Culver, Jenna Bluemlein and Korynne Berner.
In the coming weeks the Tigers will be travelling to Erie, PA and participating in the Penn State University-Behrend Tournament. They are kicking off their season against the Student Princes of Heidelberg University in the PSU-Behrend tournament. On Nov. 23 the Tigers will be hosting Transylvania University.
Swim and Dive
Looking back at last season, the Tigers competed in 15 different meets, including when they hosted the University of Cumberlands, where they lost, but then came back two weeks later and beat Hiram College. The swim and dive team graduated three seniors during their 2018-2019 season, but brought in four female swimmers and six male swimmers making a total of 10 new faces on the team. The five seniors that will be graduating in May are- Nick Angeli, Brad Barren, Drew Suffoletta, Marita Banta-Long and Claire Bergefurd.
This season, the Tigers have already competed at Ohio Wesleyan University and hosted their home opener on Nov. 2 against Wilmington College and Transylvania University. On Nov. 15 the Tigers will also be hosting the Polar Bears from Ohio Northern University before hitting the road and competing at the Malone Invitational in Canton, OH.
Indoor Track and Field
This past season, the men’s and women’s track and field team competed at 27 different meets around the Midwest and in Atlanta, GA at Emory University. The men’s and women’s team combined graduated 13 seniors at the conclusion of their 2019 season. In August, the women’s team welcomed 12 freshmen and the men’s team welcomed six.
Looking ahead, with the completion of The Steemer the track and field team is now looking forward to hosting multiple meets on campus this year. On Dec. 6 Witt is hosting their Tiger Opener, then on Jan. 25 will be hosting the Coach Rob Invitational followed by The Steemer Showcase on Feb. 22. The farthest that the team could be travelling for the 2020 season is either
Winston-Salem, NC for the NCAA Championships for the indoor track and field season, or Rochester, NY in May for the NCAA Championships for the outdoor season.
