“Gilmore Girls” is a TV show began in 2000 and ended in 2007. “Gilmore Girls” is one of my favorite television shows that I watch on Netflix. This show is very upbeat with a total of seven seasons for viewers to enjoy with content that never ceases to excite.
The plot revolves around mother Lorelai Gilmore (Lauren Graham) and daughter Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel). It is a based about their daily lives in Stars Hollow, Connecticut. We are able to watch Rory grow up as she goes through high school and college as Lorelai runs an inn and eventually opens one of her own with her best friend, Sookie St. James (Melissa McCarthy). In the show, we are able to see both Lorelai and Rory’s love interests over the years, the good and the bad. Incorporated as well are silly and serious events and encounters with people throughout Stars Hollow and in the town of Hartford.
Hartford is where Rory attends a private high school, Chilton, in hopes of having a better chance of attending her dream ivy league institution: Harvard. Rory has dreams and very high aspirations of attending Harvard and to major in Journalism. Lorelai supports these aspirations because she was sixteen when she had Rory, so Lorelai missed out on finishing high school and attending college.
Other characters include Rory’s grandparents, whom are very wealthy. Unfortunately, Lorelai was not able to pay for Chilton’s tuition on her own, being a single parent. Rory’s grandparents, Emily and Richard Gilmore, are played by Kelly Bishop and Edward Herrmann. Before the agreement of helping pay for Rory’s tuition, the relationship between Lorelai and Rory between the grandparents was not the greatest. They were not very close, and the agreement of payment included having Friday night dinners at the Gilmore grandparents’ house.
This was something Lorelai did not particularly enjoy because she did not always have the greatest relationship with her parents. When she had Rory, she moved out and started her own life in Stars Hollow without her parents. There is a lot of resentment between Lorelai and her parents. However, throughout the show, they receive a second chance at having a better relationship with one another.
Stars Hollow is a very small town that is known in the show for its charming character. It has numerous small businesses throughout, including Luke’s Diner. This is one of the most important places in the show, because this is where Lorelai and Rory spend most of their time. Lorelai and Rory are known for their hearty appetites, terrible eating habits and coffee addiction. Luke Danes (Scott Patterson), the owner of the diner, is always making sure they have the coffee at all times, and their favorite foods. The relationship between Luke and Lorelai is one of the main focuses of the show.
One of the main components of “Gilmore Girls” is the friendship between Rory and Lane Kim (Kieko Agena). We are able to see two best friends take on growing up together, and enduring the big futures they both have. In addition, Rory has many love interests throughout the show that are also a main element, and each is a roller coaster that must be seen.
“Gilmore Girls” is an amazing TV show that I recommend anyone should watch. Viewers are provided with entertainment about a mother and daughter who are best friends and take on all the challenges life has to offer. “Gilmore Girls” is available on Netflix.
