The ladies of Just Eve had their spring concert this past weekend, providing a great activity that was open to all members of the community.
The show opened strongly with a mash-up of Katy Perry’s “Roar” and Sara Bareilles’ “Brave,” showcasing the tight harmonies and melodies that the all-girl a cappella group is known for.
Senior member Rachel Scarponi was the lead vocalist for the next number, entertaining the audience with her fun dance moves, which got the other girls grooving in the background. The same fun carried throughout the rest of the show, with upbeat modern songs such as “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons, “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors, and “Royals” by Lorde, among others.
Britta Carson’s beat boxing set the tone and energy level for each song, delivering crisp rhythm for the group. To balance the more energetic songs, the ladies blended songs such as The Beatles “Here Comes the Sun” with “Let It Be” as well as Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” with Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” to slow the pace and showcase strong voices throughout the show.
The group knew how to have fun, and everyone was into their individual part to make the whole song come together for each number. Shirley Fantozzi and Madeline Geiger both delivered powerhouse performances with their songs, and filled Ness Auditorium with their soaring voices.
Before the intermission, the energy picked back up with a slightly altered version of “Party in the USA” where “the Just Eve song was on” and each member had a chance in the spotlight to all share the lead vocal parts.
As is part of their longstanding tradition, members both past and present sang “The Rose” which was powerful and emotional, as the senior members were spotlighted in two trios during the song.
After the final song, the six senior members came back out one last time for a rendition of “Free Fallin” showcasing their expertise of tight harmony and a full range of vocal talent.
As the applause died down from the audience, the remaining members rejoined the seniors on stage and put on an encore song of “Come on Eileen,” with every girl enjoying themselves with the fun and poppy melody.
