Stepping onto the golf course for her first collegiate tournament, nerves rattling, freshman golfer Jane Hopkinson-Wood never expected that she would win the entire tournament. However, with the support of her teammates and coach and her belief that she can do anything through Christ, that is exactly what she did.
“When I won it, I just couldn’t believe it. It’s like Christmas morning,” Hopkinson-Wood said. “You know it’s coming, but you don’t know what to expect. Then, when you get the present you have been asking for, it’s the best moment.”
Hopkinson-Wood won the Denison Women’s Invitational out of 102 golfers in Granville, Ohio, on Sept. 6-7, with a total score of 151, shooting a 78 in the first round and 73 in the second round.
Since then, Hopkinson-Wood has tied for first place out of 92 golfers at the DePauw Small College Classic on Sept. 20-21.
“It’s been a great experience so far, and a great start to my college career,” Hopkinson-Wood said.
Having played golf for almost seven years and, therefore, deciding to come to Wittenberg mostly for golf, Hopkinson-Wood said that upon becoming a Wittenberg Tiger, she not only fell in love with the school and its sense of community and traditions, but also with the golf team.
In addition to supporting one another on the golf course, Hopkinson-Wood also said that she and her teammates bond off-the-course as well.
“My teammates are awesome,” Hopkinson-Wood said. “They’ve supported me, and I couldn’t have asked to be a part of a better team.”
When she isn’t playing golf or hanging out with the golf team, Hopkinson-Wood enjoys hanging out with friends, napping, working-out, being a part of Young Life and watching the Ellen DeGeneres Show and Grey’s Anatomy.  Additionally, her favorite golfers are Stacy Lewis and Rory McIlroy.
A sports management and business management double major, Hopkinson-Wood said that she would eventually like to go to graduate school, and that her dream job would be to work for Nike Golf or Titleist.
