Clad in black with red accessories and sunflowers to boot, Just Eve, Wittenberg’s all-female a cappella group, performed their annual winter concert, singing both Christmas tunes and popular music with songs that ranged from “Angels We Have Heard on High” to “Come on Eileen” to “Grown Up Christmas List.”
The group, which gave two performances on Dec. 6 in Ness Auditorium, has 16 members, which includes the seven new members that joined this year. The members represent the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes.
“I am so proud of all the members’ hard work,” member Shirley Fantozzi, ’15, said. “We have seven new members who have [been] integrated so well, and it’s been so great watching them grow over the semester.”
Audience members listened as Just Eve sang 15 songs during the concert, with an additional song for the encore performance. Any Just Even alumnae who were sitting in the audience were called up to perform the traditional song, “And So It Goes,” which featured Julia Barcus, ‘15, and Megan Hawbaker, ‘15.
“I really enjoyed the concert. The singers did a great job, and I liked the mixture of regular music and Christmas music,” Rebecca Fiete, ’16, said. “The mashup of songs was really fun.”
Some of the other songs included: “Love is Endless,” featuring Erin Barrett, ‘16; “Winter Song,” featuring Hawbaker and Becca Wells, ’18; “All About That Bass,” featuring Morgan Gecking, ‘16; and “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.”
For almost every song, certain members were featured, ranging from all vocal types; the group also features two vocal percussionists: Britta Carson, ‘15, and Jillian Stout, ‘17.
“I was really nervous to start beat boxing, since I’ve never done it before, but now, it’s my favorite part of the week,” Stout said.
Meeting three times a week for a total of four hours, Just Eve has proved to be more than just an a cappella group for many of its members.
“Just Eve has helped me to find a place on campus,” member Julia Ross, ’18, said. “It’s helped me meet a great group of girls who are such a great resource and support system.”
