Visiting Assistant Professor of Language Andrés F. Peralta has been absent from classes since the return from spring break.
Students say various substitute professors have filled in during his six-week absence, including the chair of the foreign language department, Ruth Hoff.
Hoff, citing the university’s policy on personnel matters, declined to comment on the reason why Peralta has been absent and said she was unable to give information on whether he would return this semester or indefinitely.
Peralta did not return emails for comment.
According to Wittenberg’s open course listings, Peralta was currently teaching three sessions of Spanish 112F Spanish for Beginners II. For the Fall 2015 semester, Peralta is listed to teach a single session of each of the following courses:

  • Spanish 112F;
  • Spanish 261 El mundo físico (The Physical World);
  • Spanish 262 Entre dos mundos: el arte de la traducción;
  • Spanish 264 Voces del pasado (Voices of the Past);
  • Spanish 265 La diversidad en el mundo hispano (Diversity in the Spanish-Speaking World).

Peralta joined Wittenberg in January. He previously taught at Mount Allison University and Saint Mary’s University in Canada, according to his professional website that is listed on his Wittenberg bio.
