4/01/2016 Officers were dispatched to Keller Apartments in reference to a fire alarm. A student advised he was making Rice-a-Roni on the stove, and when he added water to the mixture, it put off a lot of steam, which set the smoke alarms off. The Springfield Fire Division checked the scene and reset the alarm.
4/02/2016 Officers responded to North Plum St. in reference to a large fight possibly involving a gun that had been reported to Springfield Police. Upon their arrival, they found a group of approximately 35 people who were not actively fighting. Officers attempted to speak to one of the males, and as he approached, the male ran south bound. The male – identified as a non-student – fell to the ground just south of Bill Edwards Dr. He was detained, checked for warrants and issued a criminal trespass letter.
4/06/2016 Officers responded to North Fountain in reference to a theft from the residence. A student stated that an unknown person entered through an unlocked window. The window was still open when he returned home. The items stolen include: (1) Xbox 360, (2) Xbox 360 wireless controllers, (1) liquor bottle of Black Velvet and a “random” number of shirts. This is under investigation.
4/06/2016 Officers were dispatched to West College Ave. in reference to a broken window. A student stated that sometime between 11:30 p.m. on 04/05/16 and 7 a.m. on 4/06/16, an unknown individual broke a first floor window. Physical Plant was contacted to secure the window.
4/07/2016 While on patrol, officers found a Grey Ford Escape XLT with rear end damage. The vehicle was legally parked in the 600 block of Woodlawn Ave. Officers were unable to make contact with the owner to determine if the damage was new or old. Later on 4/7/2016, the owner came into Wittenberg Dispatch to report that the damage to her vehicle was new. Photos were taken, and an OH-1 was completed. There are no known suspects at this time.
