You name it and Wittenberg has it. But with over 120 co-curricular organizations, in addition to leadership programs and Greek life, it is easy to overlook some of Witt’s best resources. From Career Services to Tiger Share, there are many programs students forget about or have yet to discover.
Aside from academics, college is meant to prepare us for the workplace and our future careers. Wittenberg’s Career Services is a great way to start preparing yourself for the workplace. One of the biggest resources Career Services has to offer is internships and job fairs. The next internship and job fair is coming up on Nov. 10 from 11:50 a.m. until 2 p.m. in Geil Lounge. There will be companies representing a wide range of industries: Adecco, a company handling hiring for Honda, EF Hutton, newly arrived in Springfield, Aldi summer internship offering $1,000 per week, Charles River Laboratory with opportunities in Animal Care, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, and Research, Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the U.S. Secret Service.
Students can see all of the companies, do their research and see what potential job openings are available by looking at the “events” tab on the Wittenberg Job Board. Other resources at Career Services include free business cards and mock interviews, where they encourage students to create business cards and print out 20 free of charge. They will also print up to 20 copies of resumes on quality paper, free of charge as well. Mock interviews can be done for internships, jobs or graduate school. Walk-in hours are every Monday and Thursday from 1:30 until 4:15 p.m.
Another resource Witt students may forget about is Tiger Share. Funded by a grant in partnership with the Clark County Transportation Coordinating Committee, Tiger Share was launched in fall 2012 as a free bike rental program for Wittenberg University students, faculty and staff. Offering nine bicycles to rent, the program hopes to increase more sustainable modes of transportation and exploration of Springfield. Reservations are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis by filling out the reservation form on the Wittenberg website or by stopping in at the Student Development office. Bikes are signed out for a 24 hour period or over the weekend.
Lastly, the COMPASS center in the library continues to ofer more and more resources for students. Many students are unaware of all the changes and programs the center has to offer. The Success Center is designed as a one-stop collaborative learning support center that has both created a collaborative, open and accessible environment for students to be productive in as well as relocated many in-demand student success services. These services include tutoring, academic skill development, disability services, personal goal setting, overcoming challenges and/or roadblocks, leadership development and comprehensive advising. Students can access these services by stopping in or by completing the “Make Your Appointment” form on the COMPASS webpage: www.wittenberg.edu/success. Another exciting addition to the center is The Grounds. The Grounds is a coffee and On-the Go café that will open in COMPASS offering drip coffee, snacks and other options for students Sunday through Thursday afternoon and evenings.
