With ice cream, steaks and putt-putt, students can’t go wrong with a trip to Young’s in nearby Yellow Springs. Although not within the city of Springfield, Young’s is a must visit for students during their time at Wittenberg.

Located at 6880 Springfield Xenia Road, Young’s provides an atmosphere of friendship and family with all the services that the farm provides. Young’s is located on a farm with three distinct buildings, The Golden Jersey Inn, Young’s Jersey Diary and Udders and Putters.

Udders and Putters, a miniature golf course, features two different courses, covered batting cages, a driving range and a grouping of other miscellaneous activities. With Siblings Weekend fast approaching, making a stop at Young’s with the family will provide one of the most exciting things off-campus. With the family in town, students can also visit the Animal Petting Zoo, as Young’s is located on its own farm.

From that farm, Young’s sources its own food, and most importantly, its ice cream. As soon as students enter Young’s Jersey Dairy, the ice cream and dairy store, their nostrils will be hit with the wafting smell of freshly baked treats and desserts. From ice cream to a variety of cheeses, Young’s Jersey Dairy has got it all.

Heading straight forward from the door is the lengthy counter of various ice cream. Each week, Young’s features a different ice cream as its Flavor of the Week at a discounted price. As for its scoops of ice cream, the employees do not hesitate on giving a hefty scoop, making a medium seem much more like a large.

Young’s also offers a wide assortment of other desserts, such as hot fudge brownies and ice cream sundaes. Instead of getting a regular sugar cone, students can try a homemade waffle cone, making the Young’s experience that much sweeter.

Also on the property resides The Golden Jersey Inn, which serves lunches and dinners. All of the food, of course, is homemade. One of the best things to get at the Inn is its steak dinner, cooked perfectly to your liking, with a never-ending assortment of sides.

Although each aspect of Young’s operates on its own hours, the one students should make sure to visit is Young’s Jersey Dairy. It is open Sundays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. Starting on March 13, Young’s will stay open until 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays and until 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

As the days continue to get warmer and the weather brighter, making a trip down to Young’s with a group of close friends is a must-go for students. While there, make sure to relish in the comfortable atmosphere that is unlike any other place nearby – and trust that the ice cream will be more delicious than anything students have ever had before.
