Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed service fraternity that seeks to serve the campus, community and nation by creating and building strong leaders and relationships on and off campus.
While most brothers join APO for the service aspect, president Laryssa VanHoose, ‘19, said that most members end up staying for the fellowship and strong bonds they develop.
“Without the friendship and support I receive from my brothers, I don’t think I’d still be at Wittenberg,” VanHoose said. “On my darkest days, my brothers provide the Wittenberg light in my life that I need to make it to the next day.”
Treasurer Lindsey King, ‘20, also commented on the opportunities that this club has given her.
“My fav part is the leadership opportunities it has already been able to provide through leadership seminars and my job as treasurer,” King said.
APO hosts countless events on campus including craft nights and volunteer opportunities for all students, as well as events for National Service Week.
Alpha Phi Omega designated the first week of November as National Service Week, in order to unify chapters with a national theme and to inspire expansion of chapter service programs. During this week, every chapter is encouraged to carry out a new, high-profile service project related to the program of emphasis and involving other chapters and the community.
This year, Wittenberg’s chapter of APO will be hosting events with themes on suicide prevention. APO will be hosting various events throughout the week outside of Hollenbeck and the Student Center. Students are encouraged to come out and support them in their mission to raise suicide awareness.
