Wittenberg has done it again! On Jan. 25, Founders played host to an amazing event all about diversity. The topic was: “What does diversity mean to you?” It had a great turnout, with every seat in the house filled. The spirit of diversity was in the air and in almost every corner of the room.

There were a handful of presenters ranging from the class of 2018 to the class of 2021, who gave individual opinions on events that have happened to them and how to meet people of diverse cultural backgrounds. Some presenters gave advice on how to understand people of diverse cultures and how not to offend anyone. Other presenters gave vivid details on how our president Donald Trump is strongly affecting American culture, and what that means for us as a nation. Many presenters expressed what diversity means to them walking around campus. The speakers really chimed in on social issues and campus issues often expressing what they would like to see change.

It was truly powerful to sit and listen to some of Wittenberg’s very own students talk about racism, being judged and being courageous. The differing perspectives of diversity from many in the crowd truly illuminated that night. Wittenberg is a very open campus, however, sometimes it can be hard to find people to click with. Attending events like these can open doors to many opportunities on campus and could help a lot of students come out of their shells and make lifetime connections and friends, or perhaps just make their stay here a little bit better.
