International Women’s Month continues to be a hit at Wittenberg with a screening of “Hidden Figures” last Wednesday night in Founders Pub.
The Math and English departments, Womyn’s Center, Multicultural Student Affairs and Shades of Pearls all teamed up to present this screening of the true story of African-American women who worked in NASA during the Space Race. Students who went were able to enjoy free snacks and drinks, courtesy of the Womyn’s Center.
The success of women in math and physics is not often spoken of in history, and even less so the success of colored women in math and physics. “Hidden Figures”, starring Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Janelle Monáe, is pivotal in celebrating the achievements of American minorities.
The film is hoped to inspire young women and minorities to pursue careers in math and science, and to achieve great things for America.
