Union Board helped to keep Witt in the fall spirit this past Wednesday with a pumpkin themed fall festival. The event included just about everything pumpkin related that you could imagine: pumpkin bowling, tic-tak-toe and even a mechanical pumpkin that students could try their luck on.
The chilly day wasn’t enough to discourage students. People huddled around the tables with free Young’s Dairy ice cream, an apple cider and a hot chocolate bar, trying to build up the courage to ride the mechanical pumpkin.
Union Board paid nearly $200 for the ice cream so that students could have it for free. The event offered countless classic flavors including peanut butter chip, cotton candy, vanilla and pumpkin spice.
Despite the free ice cream, the mechanical pumpkin was still the star of the show.
Union Board has partnered up with a company called Supergames for many of their events, including Wittfest. Supergames supplies many of the fun machines and inflatables students see at Wittfest. This past year, Union Board rented a mechanical bull from Supergames to be apart of their Bluegrass cookout.
“Kevin [Carey] and I were brainstorming something super fun for this event and Kevin just went to [Supergames’] website and it was right there,” Union Board programming chair Payton Hurl, ‘20, said. “We were immediately like yes we need this.”
Hurl even tried her own hand at the mechanical pumpkin, doing her best to hold onto the stem of the pumpkin as it whipped her around the ring.
“It was super slippery and definitely harder than it looks,” Hurl said.
Other than this event, Union Board hosted another spooky event, a student run showing of “Rocky Horror.” Union Board members Ben Strommen, ‘20, and Olivia Racenelli, ‘19, even participated as actors in the show, making sure to expose all the Rocky Horror virgins in the crowd.
Of course Union Board’s haunting Halloween themed events don’t stop there. To finish out the season and to get students ready to stuff their faces this Thanksgiving, Union Board will be hosting a themed Paint the Night event. The event on November 2 will be featuring homemade pies from a local orchard. Be sure to go and get in the Thanksgiving spirit.
