This week, I stopped by a town that I’ve wanted to visit for a while: Cedarville.
Located just 20 minutes away from Wittenberg, this sleepy little town has some nice sights and shops to see, just be careful which day you go.
One of the reasons it took me so long to visit is because many of the stores have hours that are not conducive for visiting. One of the stores, the Sassy Katz Boutique, claims to be open from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. But when I stopped by around 12:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, they were not open.
I was able to go to Second Act of Cedarville, a small thrift store on the main strip (Ohio State Route 72) and browsed around for a bit. They had a mix of youthful clothes and older styles, but I wouldn’t recommend going here for very stylish clothes; if Goodwill-style vintage outfits are more your thing, I would definitely recommend it. They also have many sales, but share the same minimal hours as other shops; Tuesdays they are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Due to these hours, many people might not be able to go due to class or work, but if you’re in the area and they’re open, I would definitely check it out.
Down the street, I stopped into Stoney Creek Roasters for a milk steamer and a scone. Although the milk steamer was delicious, I would not get another scone; blueberry scones are my favorite, but this one was very dry and doughy, and the steamed milk could barely help me get it down. I would go back, however, for the drink menu and the design of the shop. They sell very cute coffee mugs and other tchotchkes, and they offer a cute environment to hang out and do homework, so I would definitely recommend stopping by, but maybe stick to drinks and a deli item.
If you want a sweet treat on your way back to campus, right across the street from Cedarville’s campus is a cute ice cream shop called Mom and Dad’s Dairy Bar. They advertise 24 plus flavors of soft serve ice cream and while I didn’t stop in on this visit due to very cold weather, a friend recommended it to me and I would like to try it when the weather gets a bit warmer.
If you want to stop by Cedarville, you can hop on Limestone Street and head south, through downtown, until Limestone turns into OH-72 S. After about 20 minutes of fields and farms, you’ll pull into Cedarville; drive past the university, and you’ll soon be in the heart of downtown.
