Men’s Soccer
Freshman Austin Lewis’ three shots on goal were not enough, as the Tigers fell in a conference showdown 6-0 to the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. Freshman Hunter Bock was able to save four shots in a second half while the Bishops only notched two goals. The Tigers will take the field to host DePauw on Wednesday. DePauw sits at 3-0 and is in first place in the conference.
Women’s Soccer
The Tigers lodged a shutout over the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan. The 2-0 victory was Wittenberg’s first conference victory of the year. The goals came off the feet of Megan Davis and Taylor Vaughn. The goals made four on the year for Davis and two for Vaughn. It only took senior goalkeeper Maggie Grieser five saves to record the shutout. The Tigers boasted a 22-11 advantage in shots, indicating a strong defensive effort for Wittenberg. The Tigers have another week off before they take on Oberlin at home on Saturday.
Volleyball
The Tigers rose to the occasion in Friday’s battle for first place in the NCAC. The Tigers swept Ohio Wesleyan 3-0. Kara Seidenstricker took her usual place atop the leader board with 15 kills. Bryanna Jay added four blocks of the Tigers’ block in the Tigers’ defensive effort. In all, the Tigers had seven aces. The Tigers take a break from their conference schedule to take on rival Calvin next Friday.
Field Hockey
Regulation time was not enough to determine a winner between Wittenberg and DePauw last Saturday. The Tigers fell to their rivals from Greencastle by a score of 4-3 on Saturday. Two of the Tigers’ goals came from Blaine Donnelly, including the sixty-fourth minute cage rattler, which forced the overtime. Audrey Cooler forced the issue all day for the Tigers, racking up four shots in the loss. The Tigers take the field this Thursday against Denison.
Football
After winning 22 straight NCAC contests, the Tigers lost their second conference show down in three games. The 35-30 loss to DePauw came despite Zach Jenkins throwing for 396 yards on the day. 146 of the yards came from passes to Corey Stump, who was the leading receiver for Wittenberg on Saturday. It was turnovers which did the Tigers on Saturday, as they gave the ball away four times without a single take away on the other side of the ball. The loss drops the Tigers to 3-2 on the year, while DePauw moves to 5-0 and still is in contention for the NCAC crown.
