Established in 1921 and 2003, respectively, the Alma Mater and Alma Lux awards – Wittenberg’s most prestigious honors – are presented to one junior woman and one junior man at the Honors Convocation.
“A special screening committee [comprised of the nominations sent in by students, faculty and staff] selects five nominations for final consideration, and a campus-wide election determines which nominee is chosen to represent Wittenberg,” Angela Fairbanks, executive assistant of Student Development, said.
Students then vote on these candidates to determine who will receive the award at the Convocation held in April.
The nominees for both the Alma Lux and the Alma Mater “must possess depth of character and show consistent scholarship, leadership, service and concern for the community,” according to Fairbanks.
Elections will take place on Mar. 29, and the Honors Convocation will be held in Weaver Chapel on Apr. 8.
