This morning, interim president Richard Helton sent an email to Wittenberg faculty announcing the resignation of Tom Murray, chair of the Wittenberg Board of Directors. This marks the end of Murray’s six years on the Board. Helton stated that Murray “has distinguished himself as a leader and parent in our community, including playing a vital role in Wittenberg’s current stability and success. I respect him greatly, both personally and professionally, as well as his decision to devote more of his energy to his family, work and community at this time.”
Zembar also expressed her support of Murray, stating that “he helped us navigate through uncharted waters with compassion and integrity. I thank him for his leadership, and I wish him only the best.”
Murray said that he is looking forward to returning to his role as a Wittenberg parent. “I’m very proud of my time on the Wittenberg Board of Directors,” he said. “We have navigated great transition, more than stabilized the University and most importantly, stand with great opportunity ahead. I trust that the forward momentum already established will continue through the ongoing work of my fellow Board members, whom I thank for their friendships, kindnesses and collaboration.”
“Tom Murray has been a tireless advocate of Wittenberg,” Peter Hanson, chair of the Faculty Executive Board, said, “and I wish him the best in all to come.”
Helton and his team are currently in conversation with the Board to discuss interim leadership.
