In celebration of National Punctuation Day on Sept. 24, Wittenberg held its yearly Punctuation Election in the Writing Center.
The event for Family Weekend allows students and their families the opportunity to cast a ballot for the punctuation mark of the year in Hollenbeck Hall’s Writing Center until Monday, Sept. 26. If a student or a member of their family votes, they will be entered in the Punctuation Prize Drawing.
“I’m not a huge writer,” Lauren Hofer, junior Finance major, said. “However, I will be voting for the snark because it’s not used a lot but it’s a fun punctuation mark for all.”
The ballots laying out on the Writing Center’s front table give a variety of options to choose from. They include apostrophe, colon, semicolon, dash, hyphen, parentheses, period, interrobang, oxford comma, exclamation point, comma, brackets, ellipsis, quotation marks, question mark, snark and even a space for anyone to give another punctuation mark of their choice.
“I will be voting for the interrobang, which is a cross between an exclamation point and question mark,” Adam Barstow, ‘17, said.
Stop by the Writing Center in Hollenbeck 112 to help decide which punctuation mark will rule for the 2016-2017 academic year.
