On Friday, April 7, Wittenberg celebrated the fifth annual Liberal Arts in Action: A Celebration of Learning. The event will took place from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Benham-Pence Student Center and the Joseph C. Shouvlin Center for Lifelong Learning.
Dedicated to celebrating student achievement, the campus-wide event showcased student talent from various academic departments and co-curricular activities, as it unites students, faculty and staff around the year’s academic accomplishments.
More than 140 students presented various research pursuits, poster presentations and performances. The presented topics covered a wide range of subjects like politics, heroes, perceptions of women, atheltes, immigration and more. Presentations included: “Earth, Wind & Fire (and Water),” “Not Just Fun and Games: Feminism in ‘Parks and Recreation,’” “Immigration Revealed through Fictional Stories,” “The Giants Saved My Life: How Sports Helped Heal a Nation,” along with internship panels covering student experiences at WDTN Dayton 2 T.V. and an internship in Africa.
At the conclusion of the Celebration of Learning, the community gathered for the annual Honors Convocation at 4:15 p.m. in Weaver Chapel, followed by an Honors Reception in Gus Geil Lounge of the Benham-Pence Student Center at 5:30 p.m. The event was made possible by co-organizers Amy Livingstone, history professor and director of the Honors Program, and Cherie Rebar, professor of nursing, in addition to logistical support by Brandee Bates, Linda Beals, Beth Delaney, Sharon Greitzer and Ryan Maurer.
