Wittenberg Women’s Field Hockey team returned to action at home on Sept. 23 against the Denison Big Red. This was a huge conference match as both schools have had lots of success with their field hockey programs.
Both teams struggled to gain an advantage against each other during the first half of the game. During the game, there was a brief pause in the action due to player safety. The game had go to overtime to determine a winner, with Wittenberg losing a close game by the of score 3-2.
Dension was the first team to strike a goal, then Audrey Coler, ‘18, responded for the Tigers, tying the score at 1-1 before halftime. In the second half, Wittenberg took a lead of 2-1 when Blaine Donnelly, ‘19, scored.
Denison fought hard to score their second goal to tie the game back 2-2 and scored a third time to win in overtime. During the second half, both teams were able to get five shots on goal.
The Tigers next game is against Kenyon College on Oct. 1 against Sewanee.
