This past Wednesday was a warm, sunny, day. Excitement filled the air on Stoughton Lawn as the Wittenberg community gathered to eat scrumptious grilled cheeses accompanied by savory tomato soup. The brothers of Delta Tau Delta cooked up and served grilled cheese and tomato soup to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). An estimated total of about $1,500 was raised.
“My favorite part of Melts with Delts is bringing the Wittenberg Community together on Stoughton Lawn,” Joe Casedonte, ‘18 and vice president, said. “We’ve had a good Greek presence here tonight. I’ve seen people from every fraternity on campus and it’s great to see the Panhellenic brotherhood in action. The money we raise tonight will go towards juvenile type one diabetes research to find ways to create artificial pancreases and different types of insulin.”
In addition to selling $5 tickets for grilled cheese and tomato soup, the Delts also sold T-shirts that said “Delts make me Melt” for $12 a piece. Booming music attracted people from Alumni Way to indulge in the activities. There was a heavy Greek presence, but symphonic band members coming from rehearsal and sports teams coming from practice joined the crowd.
“It’s a really rewarding experience to see so many people show up to support type one diabetes research,” Charles Rodeheffer, ‘19 and brother, said.
Delt brother Jacob Davis, ‘19, shared one of his favorite parts of the event.
“I think my favorite part is convincing random friends that are walking down Alumni Way to give us their money to eat our grilled cheese,” Davis said.
Playing off of the event’s slogan, “Delts make me Melt,” Nathan Schwartz, ‘19, said, “I love melting with my brothers.”
In addition to the food, some played cornhole and danced to the music. Overall, the event was a success and everyone seemed to have a great time.
