Alumni Way was buzzing all Friday evening, alive with students and faculty hungry for Bada Bing! pizza.

Alpha Xi Delta, Wittenberg’s newest sorority, hosted its first philanthropy event of the year, Pizza Palooza, with all the proceeds going to Autism Speaks.

The Autism Speaks website says the organization is, “dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support.”

Sisters of Alpha Xi Delta were extremely pleased with the turnout at the event, selling over 100 tickets prior to the event, plus some at the door.

Hayley Woodbridge, ’19 and philanthropy chair, spent the past week planning the event.

“It was stressful,” Woodbridge said. “However, seeing how it turned out and how many people came out, it was definitely worth it, especially because it all goes to Autism Speaks.”

Alpha Xi Delta sisters manned a table full of dozens of Bada Bing! cheese and pepperoni pizzas, as well as salads and drinks. There were tables scattered along the food table for attendees to sit and eat at, as well as a DJ playing music throughout the event.

“I think the event is going well,” Abigail Crum, ’19 and academic achievement chair, said. “It’s the first year we’ve done this, so I’d say it’s been successful. I’m glad we had a good turn out.”

Woodbridge agreed, saying that she was glad to let everyone take a break from their hectic school careers.

“I’m having a lot of fun,” Woodbridge said. “It’s really cool to see everyone coming here. Everyone’s in a good mood and they’re not stressed. It’s a good end to the week.”

In the end, Alpha Xi Delta has only one goal for the event: to raise money for their philanthropy.

“We’re powered by love for Autism Speaks,” Woodbridge said.
