April 19, 2024

Looking back at the reflection I wrote for The Torch last year, I can’t help but realize how much I’ve matured and grown since I wrote that article, which was only a year ago.

Sophomore year was a rough year emotionally, and junior year was more of a struggle in terms of learning and fitting myself into a mold of someone who I wanted to be. I learned very quickly that gossip, no matter how often others do it, is not the way to go about most things. Being upfront is some situations is perhaps the better option of the two, and I learned my lesson from that.

Junior year was my second year of being Managing Editor for The Torch, and looking ahead toward being Editor-in-Chief next year, I know I have a lot of self-building and learning to be a leader to do over the summer. I spent April working toward becoming a better person, especially toward others, but I’ve still got a long way to go.

Joining Kappa Delta this past spring has helped me to realize that my actions don’t always affect me, but they affect others as well. I’ve had to come to terms with a variety of mistakes that I’ve made, but my friends in Kappa Delta have been there to provide advice and help me get through all of the rough patches. I might have waited a while to join a sorority, but joining as a junior was the missing piece to my Wittenberg puzzle, and I’m so thankful for all of the experiences I’ve had over these past few months, and I’m looking forward to what this experience will bring in the fall.

I now have a bigger group of friends outside of what I came into this year with, and I feel so immensely grateful that I’ll be able to continue flourishing and meeting new people next year.

It’s weird to be sitting here writing this, knowing that in less than a week, I will officially be a senior and that I will begin working on my senior honors thesis over the summer. In the fall, I’ll be the president of two organizations which I’ve come to love: The Torch and SAGE, and I’ll be able to step into some sort of leadership position within Kappa Delta. All three of my years here at Wittenberg have led up to these monumental steps, and I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone that has pushed me to take these steps.

But, I wouldn’t have gotten here if it wasn’t for the love from my friends, sisters and family. I’ve now got a rock-hard support system behind me, and I am so happy that they have encouraged me to step out of the box and try new things. Kappa Delta has brought out the best of me, and I can’t wait to make all of my sisters proud my senior year.

I’m incredibly excited to see what senior year has in store for me, and I can’t wait to get started on my own self-meditation this summer.

Junior year, you’ve been a handful, but senior year, I can’t wait to experience you.
