Have you ever struggled with trying to find your faith? How about in a community?
Wittenberg University has many faith-based organizations on its campus, but only one comes to mind in putting the community in Christ and their name is CRU.
Who is CRU and what do they do?
The Campus Crusades for Christ, also known as, CRU is an inner faith-based community with a chapter at Wittenberg. In CRU, many people of different faiths come together to build a community towards Christ.
The CRU chapter here at Witt is filled with music, group interactions and topics based on the emcees for the night.
The History of CRU on Witt’s campus is unknown, but some interviews from the CRU staff it’s been around for more than a decade.
It just so happened that the theme for its recent meeting was satisfaction. Many staff and members talk about why they chose CRU.
“I chose CRU just [be]cause [it’s] another way to connect with other Christians, or people that [are] exploring their faith or like just… for more information, to…grow and learn [from] other great people, [it’s a] great way to meet other people,” Malik Clayton, ‘19, said.
“Well, what made me chose CRU, I was actually dragged here by a friend, and I was like ‘I [don’t] know if I want to do this or not’ but I found out that it’s a Christian organization and I was like ‘you know what, let’s do it, let’s see how it is’, and I stayed for one of the first services last week and I really enjoyed it.” Gillian Rebar, ‘22, said.
“I would say the community that you get from CRU. So when you go to the CRU main meeting you’re not only here for Jesus and the Bible, you also get to grow in fellowship with one another. You get to meet some of the best people, just to come to hangout and have fun,” Chelby Dye, ‘20, said.
Not only did the student members chose CRU for a reason, but some of the staff also chose the organization for reasons that are different from theirs.
“I was involved in CRU as a student. It had a really big impact on my life. I also think that it’s a just visionary thing college students that are like the next generation and they are going to be the next influences of the world. So, I think it’s really important to reach these students,” Becca Catoe, a CRU staff member and the guest speaker for the night, said.
“I chose CRU because I was a business major studying business at Capital University, and I kind of didn’t fit in right there in that major. I was a part of CRU on campus with Capital and I really loved seeing the way my life was being impacted by CRU and by the people and my monitors. [I] really wanted to able to see that happen for others. [I] really wanted to give others a chance to see what life can be and really impact others in something greater than themselves,” Michael Grandison, another staff member of CRU, said.
If you’re looking for a community-based organization that connects with Christ, wanting to go to an annual retreat in October or wanting to have something to do on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m., in Blair Hall room 201, then Wittenberg CRU is the best for you.

Not a comment on this story, but I don’t see another way to contact Torch staff. Can you make the fonts consistent within each story? On several browsers, the font seems to vary within paragraphs and sometimes within sentences (copy/paste editing?). This has been true for many stories this fall. Thanks for looking into this.
